The Nigerian man who strapped explosives to his underwear in the foiled Christmas Day airline bombing was "lonely."
In hundreds of online postings believed to be written by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the 23-year-old bomb terror suspect bemoaned his lack of companionship and the fact that he "never found a true Muslim friend."
Umar Abdulmutallab, the Nigerian suspect who allegedly tried to blow up a passenger jet in Detroit on December 25, was sexually frustrated and had jihad fantasies, a media report said.
Abdulmutallab, 23, tried to detonate explosives hidden in his underwear on a Northwest Airlines flight approaching Detroit from Amsterdam on Christmas Day.
Alan Johnson, the Home Secretary, earlier said: "We don't know yet whether it was a single-handed plot or there were other people behind it – I suspect it's the latter rather than the former".
He also disclosed that the 23-year-old had been banned from entering Britain and was placed on a "watch list" earlier this year.
Abdulmutallab, 23, the privately-educated son of one of Nigeria’s most prominent bankers, managed to smuggle his bomb aboard the aircraft by strapping a condom filled with the high explosive PETN to the inside of his leg and then attempting to detonate it using a syringe filled with a liquid chemical. The PETN powder caught fire but did not explode.
Charged with attempting to destroy the Christmas Day Northwest Airlines Flight 253, he has reportedly warned US investigators: "There are more just like me who will strike soon."
